Ten AIMS students were among the eighty young Africans selected from eight different educational institutions invited to meet with The Elders in Johannesburg on the 29th of May. Originally brought together by Nelson Mandela in 2007, The Elders are eminent global leaders who no longer hold public office. The group includes Martti Ahtisaari, Kofi Annan, Ela Bhatt, Lakhdar

The Postgraduate Diploma Programme (PGD) took in a record 54 students in September 2009. The computer lab facilities were expanded to continue to accomodate one-PC-per-student. Below the students are visiting the International Office of Stellenbosch University, which helps AIMS in the necessary administration and to get visas for the PGD students.

Cambridge University Press (CUP) celebrated the launch of the AIMS Library Series at a special event at AIMS on Thursday 29 October. Stephen Bourne, CEO of CUP, addressed the gathering and Prof Alan Beardon, author of the first title in the series, spoke about how the series was conceptualised.
All forty-two Diploma students graduated on 25 June 2009 at a special ceremony held at the Muizenberg Pavilion. The ceremony was addressed by the Kenyan High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Mr T Amolo. Graduation took place on the 24th of June 2008 at the Muizenberg Pavilion. Graduates and academics met at the AIMS building from where they proceeded to the Pavilion. Of the 53 students, 52 graduated and eight of these did so with distinction. The Minister of Education, Naledi Pandor, gave the main address at the ceremony.
The graduation ceremony for the Diploma students took place at AIMS on 23rd June 2007.
