We are pleased to invite applications for the second Machine Learning JEDI workshop:
http://www.cosmology.org.za/ml-jedi-2/
The ethos of the JEDI workshops (jedi.saao.ac.za) is to transfer skills primarily by actively working on real-world research problems in small groups rather than through lectures. Unlike the previous Machine Learning workshop, we will focus on a single real-world problem which involves both big data and machine learning such as this one: http://www.kaggle.com/c/seizure-prediction . Participants will be free to compete for the Kaggle prize associated with the central problem of the JEDI workshop, which will be finalised and announced on 23 September.
Participation in the workshop will be limited to a maximum of 15, with preference given to applicants with some expertise or experience in big data and machine learning. Successful applicants will be given accommodation and food at the Monkey Valley resort in Cape Town since past experience has demonstrated that a significant benefit of the JEDI workshop is the after-hours interaction.
Dates: 20-24 October 2014 (Monday to Friday)

Cape Town. Accommodation will be in self-catering cottages with all meals included.
