The Siyakhula Festival’s closing celebrations were highlighted by the launch of an innovative academic journal, the Journal of Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (JAISD). This pioneering journal, envisioned by the collaborative efforts within NAiXUS, aims to foster interdisciplinary work across a broad range of disciplines, underscoring the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals.

A Pioneering Publication at the Intersection of AI and Sustainable Development

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (JAISD), a landmark publication established under the auspices of the NAIXUS Network of Excellence has been launched on 22 March 2024 at the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the  African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) celebrating Africa’s rich mathematical heritage and promote growth in scientific endeavours across the world.

Aligned with the mission of NAIXUS – to foster collaboration across cultural and language barriers in AI and sustainability – JAISD aims to bring together researchers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Our initial partners hail from an extensive network spanning Slovenia, Australia, Andorra, Brazil, Chile, Finland, France, Ghana, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Tanzania, the UK, and the USA. This global collaboration underlines our commitment to harnessing AI for sustainable development worldwide.

JAISD emerges as a central platform for disseminating cutting-edge research at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
