In order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, the United Nations General Assembly decided in 2016 to declare 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
On 15 February from 3:45pm-5:30pm, the AIMS Women in STEM Initiative (AIMSWIS) in South Africa will commemorate, by organising a women’s mentoring session and public lecture at AIMS South Africa which aims to encourage and inspire women and girls to be the next generation of scientists.
