Growing to new heights

On Saturday, 27 September 2025, AIMS South Africa hosted a dynamic teacher workshop focused on Computational Thinking. The event brought together mathematics and science teachers from across the Cape to explore innovative ways of professional learning. This marks another step in how we are growing as an AIMS community of teachers committed to transforming teaching and learning in township schools.

The workshop emphasised both theory and practice. Teachers were first introduced to accessible, unplugged methods that do not rely on technology, in case they did not have access to computers in their respective schools. Discussions also highlighted how these approaches can enhance learner engagement and strengthen foundational mathematical skills.

AIMSSEC was proud to have Xinyue Cheng and Maria Stickel from Heidelberg University, whose contributions helped to raise the profile of the initiative. Their expertise and enthusiasm for advancing equitable education left a lasting impression on participants.

These kinds of workshops form part of AIMS South Africa’s ongoing commitment to supporting teachers as key drivers of educational transformation. The programme seeks to multiply impact across schools and communities, ensuring that computational thinking becomes a natural part of the learning journey for all learners.
