Honouring Success Through Partnership and Compassion at Lavender Hill High School’s Valedictory

AIMSSEC, the schools enrichment centre of AIMS South Africa, supports partnerships with and between schools on the Cape Flats. A partnership facilitated by AIMSSEC between Lavender Hill High School and Levana Primary School during computational thinking workshops aims to grow young minds together.

On Friday 11 October 2024, Dr Sinobia Kenny was honoured to be a special guest at the Grade 12 Valedictory Ceremony at Lavender Hill High School, an event filled with emotion and inspiration. Witnessing the learners celebrate their achievements, knowing they are part of the ~40% of Grade 1 learners who complete Grade 12, was a moment of immense pride. Dr Kenny was especially moved by the heartfelt thanks extended to the learners’ primary school teachers, acknowledging the strong foundation they had built for these Grade 12 learners. It highlighted the importance of building strong partnerships between teachers, learners, and parents for learner success.

As a candle was lit to remember those lost too soon, the sight of parents weeping was a poignant reminder that parenting is about helping children reach their dreams. The celebration also served as a powerful moment to remind young minds to hold onto the feeling of achievement, using it to fuel their future successes. Surrounded by these inspiring learners, parents, and teachers – true giants in their own right – Dr Kenny felt humbled and reminded of the enduring power of compassion and mutual support. She salutes them all for their strength and dedication.
