CIMPA School 2023

The Blockchain in Theory and Real Applications School was held at AIMS South Africa from 20 November to 1 December 2023.

A blockchain is a digital list of data records, comprised by blocks which are organized in chronological order and are linked and secured by cryptographic proofs. In this school they focused on two branches of blockchain technology. First, the development of particular algorithms to execute transactions consensually, and second the mathematical tools and cryptographic protocols providing the security issues behind this technology.

The opening ceremony was held on 24 November and special guests included Prof. Barry Green, Mr Jesús Silva Fernández, the Spanish General Consul and Prof. David Holgate, Chair of the AIMS Council. Guests had the chance to enjoy a performance from the Dutch opera singer, Amira Willlighagen.

The Administrative and Scientific coordinators were Jorge Urroz (Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña y Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain) and Dr Ulrich Paquet (AIMS South Africa).

Speakers at the workshop included: Jordi Baylina (Hermez, Spain), Jose Muñoz (UPC, Spain), Marta Belles (UPF, Spain), Marc  Guzman (UPC, Spain), Jules Mba (UJ, South Africa), Anthony Matlala  (Polygon), Mesias Alfeus (SU, South Africa). The 21 participants included current AIMS students.
