AIMS South Africa – IWR “Advances in Mathematical Optimization” Compact Course and Summer School

Dates:
Compact Course: 10 – 14 December 2018
Summer School: 17 – 21 December 2018

Lecturers:

  • Prof. Hans Georg Bock, IWR, Heidelberg University
  • Prof. Ekaterina Kostina, IWR, Heidelberg University
  • Prof. Gerd Reinelt, IWR, Heidelberg University
  • Prof. Martine Labbé, Université Libre de Bruxelles and INRIA
  • Dr. Ole Klein, IWR, Heidelberg University

The AIMS South Africa- IWR Summer School will be hosted in Muizenberg, South Africa. The course and school will focus on important modern methods in the field of mathematical optimization. We are targeting young researchers who want to deepen their knowledge of the methods that play a crucial role in solving demanding optimization problems in many application domains in science and engineering, economics, medicine, data analysis and increasingly in industrial and societal problems. The school covers fundamental concepts, latest innovations and many practical applications of continuous, discrete and mixed-integer optimization as well as optimal control and game theory.

It also addresses application topics, giving examples of how the theoretical concepts covered in the course lectures can be applied to solve real-world problems.

The program consists of a pre-course (week 1) on practical aspects of numerical implementation (in C and C++) and a lecture module (week 2) to teach the basics of non-linear and integer optimization with additional lectures by regional experts and talks by the participating postgraduate students.
